World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to boost an item's gear score up to 700 and add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For example the perfect roll breakpoint armor is used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't change much after an upgrade and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to boost their numeric stats, such as crit chance, attack damage PvE and PvP damage. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. A lot of weapons also come with an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit. In some instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage a weapon can sustain by itself.
The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity and level. For example an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue increase until it requires an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons can also reroll the stats of their base. While this is usually a good thing however, it could have negative consequences as well. Upgrades can make items inaccessible, unless you're extremely lucky.
Armor items can be upgraded to improve their stats. This can increase the defense base of a chest or helm while belts and gloves can boost their strength and agility. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it may reduce its value.
The upgrade template for a weapon displays the new stats it will gain when upgraded and their respective values. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword would result in a weapon receiving 3% of attack damage. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 fewer times, since it is an absolute statistic.
A weapon can also be rerolled using the green button with circular arrows within the menu for items. The item will be rerolled and change its stats, but it won't reset the weapon's level nor tie it to the account status.
Armor
A few armor upgrades can make all the difference to your survivability. Certain sets offer massive boosts to poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, which makes the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. The more defense your character is, the more value you can get from every point of health you have, so it's important to upgrade your armor as much as you can.
To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four in total and each one requires you to complete a specific side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest, and the corresponding fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.
The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. You'll require anything between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the initial armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, for instance, can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which allows you to stay ahead in frigid environments with a large group of foes. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with your friends.
You can't upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or the power of spells. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you will still be wearing by the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Potions

To upgrade a potions you need to right-click it in your inventory. Then select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open a GUI which allows you to choose the potion that you want to upgrade and the amount of experience they will give you when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at once, and their XP will be added to the total XP you have.
When a poton is upgraded, it will not degrade in the event that you take it out again or break the bottle in the container it is stored. You can also change the name of the potion by clicking it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few modifications to the way potions are used. Splash potions, for example, now have a duration 0:08 instead of the 22.5 seconds that are displayed on the item hover display. The table of potion now crafted from four Wood Planks, and two Glass. Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to purchasing a new trinket. A player can upgrade their trinket for just 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same level of base as the previous trinket but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.
When the old Trinkets are no longer useful, they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded among players and are a viable alternative to gold.
Players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually means the best-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries, and finally other gear items that will not be replaced in the near future (for instance rings or cloaks). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when choosing which items to upgrade. For instance If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should prioritize upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and chest.
After they've become unusable trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level. The new trinket comes with an additional 1% bonus. However, a re-upgrade will cause the trinket to be destroyed until it is saved using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an alternative salvage tool that is higher-end. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, yet is still cheaper than buying an entirely new trinket.
